Athelney Trust plc Investment Objective

The investment objective of the Trust is to provide shareholders with prospects of long-term capital growth with the risks inherent in small cap investment minimised through a spread of holdings in quality small cap companies that operate in various industries and sectors. The Fund Manager also considers that it is important to maintain a progressive dividend record.

Athelney Trust plc Investment Policy

The assets of the Trust are allocated predominantly to companies with either a full listing on the London Stock Exchange or a trading facility on AIM or ISDX. The assets of the Trust have been allocated in two main ways: first, to the shares of those companies which have grown steadily over the years in terms of profits and dividends but, despite this progress, the market rating is favourable when compared to future earnings and dividends; second, to those companies whose shares are standing at a favourable level compared with the value of land, buildings or cash in the balance sheet.

Portfolio Structure

Exposure to at least 20 different companies to provide diversification. 

Exposure to equities: 80% (minimum) and 100% (maximum).

Exposure to Fixed Income and Cash: 0% (minimum) and 20% (maximum).

Exposure to companies in the FTSE 100: 25% (maximum).

Exposure to property trusts: 25% (maximum).


Borrowings are not permitted. Physical Cash held to be greater than or equal to 0%.


The Manager is not allowed to use Derivatives to gear portfolios i.e. creating a net market exposure which exceeds the portfolio total market value. Unlisted options are prohibited.

Committees of the Board

There are two committees, namely the Audit Committee and the Remuneration Committee, the members of which are Simon Moore and David Lawman. The Audit Committee liaises with the company auditors (Hazelwoods Chartered Accountants) in all aspects of the Statutory Audit and agrees the annual audit fee. The Remuneration Committee meets at least once a year to review and determine the salaries of the Board.
